Honestly, probably just a shortcut to buy time while they expand on the manga story. Studios gotta eat, ya know!
Because the movie was awesome, and we all needed to see more of Boruto and his epic journey to surpass his dad!
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations repeats the movie storyline to give more depth and detail to the characters and plot that the movie couldn't cover in its limited runtime.
As someone who watched both, the anime adds more context and backstory. So, it's actually pretty cool to see the scenes expanded!
