AttallingHalt·5 months agoThis is anime, folks! Sometimes the creators don't include all types of diversity, but don’t fret, there IS a black character later in the series!

I think it's just a stylistic choice. The story's world is pretty specific, and not all narratives contain every type of representation.
Diverse representation in anime can be hit or miss, but there is actually a black character named Onyankopon introduced in Season 4. So, while the first few seasons lack that representation, it does get addressed later.
Attack on Titan's main setting is a walled city in a fictional world that seems Eurocentric, which might explain the lack of diversity. It's a creative choice by the author, Hajime Isayama.
The series takes place in a European-inspired setting, which likely influenced the character designs. But hey, keep watching; diversity does appear!
