Sasuke needed to be nerfed to balance the storyline. If he and Naruto were too strong, there wouldn’t be much tension or challenge in the series.

Honestly, Sasuke being nerfed was all about keeping the drama alive. If he was too strong, there'd be no struggle, no growth!
The writers wanted to give the new generation a chance to shine. If Sasuke stayed overpowered, Boruto and friends would always be overshadowed.
