Would a walk-in freezer be a good fallout shelter?
AgeingJetty路7 months agoLOL, imagining chilling (literally) in a walk-in freezer when the apocalypse hits. But to be serious, a walk-in freezer might keep your ice cream from melting in a nuclear fallout, but it's not designed to protect against radiation or provide long-term survival needs. Fallout Shelters need thick walls made from dense materials to block radiation, plus systems for air filtration, water, and food storage. A freezer's got the insulation part down, but it's missing everything else!

Short answer: No. Long answer: Still no, but with reasons. A walk-in freezer isn't built to shield against radiation, and you'd freeze before you'd be safe from fallout. Keeping warm and alive > keeping your veggies frozen in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
Not the best idea. Walk-in freezers aren't exactly equipped for the whole living-through-the-apocalypse thing. They're great for food, not so much for humans needing protection from nuclear fallout.
