Actually, keys never drop in game. You always had to buy them, but you can get weapon and item drops post-match. Just no keys, those you need to buy from the in-game store or Steam Market. Valve made this change to keep things on the up and up.

Nope, those days are gone! Keys in CS:GO don't drop during gameplay anymore. You gotta buy them or trade for them in the Steam Market now. Valve changed how keys work a while back to combat fraud and now all keys are purchased directly and cannot be traded or sold.
