You can start trading almost immediately in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As soon as you get access to the Poke Portal in the menu, which happens after you get the Pokédex from Professor Sada (Scarlet) or Professor Turo (Violet), you're good to go. This happens very early in the game, so you'll be trading with friends in no time!
