How to Change the Name of a Traded Pokemon in Scarlet

No luck there, unfortunately. Once a Pokemon is traded, its name is locked in unless it's never been nicknamed. If it's got the original species name (like Pikachu is just Pikachu), then you can take it to the Name Rater in Montenevera and give it a new nickname. But if it's already got a custom name, you're stuck with it unless the original trainer never gave it a nickname.

You can't change a traded Pokemon's nickname if it already has one. It's one of those old Pokemon rules that stick around to keep the world spinning, I guess.

Actually, you could try trading it back to the original owner, have them change the name, and then trade it back to you. A bit of a hassle, but if the name really bugs you, could be worth a shot!
