How to change the nickname of a traded Pokemon in Scarlet

Changing the nickname of a traded Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet is pretty straightforward but comes with a caveat. You can only change the nickname of a Pokémon if the original trainer didn't give it a nickname. Just head to any Pokémon Center and talk to the NPC who's in charge of nicknames (the Name Rater). If the Pokémon doesn't have a nickname already and you're not its original trainer, this NPC gives you one chance to nickname it. Remember, this is a one-time deal, so choose wisely!

Actually, I traded with a friend once, and they sent me a Pokémon without a nickname. I could easily give it a new nickname by visiting the Name Rater in a Pokémon Center. It's a neat feature for those who like to personalize their Pokémon even after receiving them from someone else.

Unfortunately, if the Pokémon you received through a trade already has a nickname, you're stuck with it – no renaming those! It's one of those quirks in Pokémon games where you gotta love them as they are, name and all.
