I've been date skipping to get specific weather conditions for rare Pokemon spawns. Works like a charm! Just make sure you close the game completely before changing the date, or it won't register the change.

Nah, don't bother date skipping. Just enjoy the game as it comes. Rushing through with tricks takes away the magic, IMO.
