Super easy! Just open up CS:GO, go to 'Settings', then 'Audio Settings', and there you'll find a slider for 'Music Volume in Steam Overlay'. Drag that bad boy all the way down. Also, turn off 'Play Audio When Game in Background' if that's on. Peace and quiet achieved!

Nah, keep it on. The background noise adds to the immersion. You'll learn to tune out what you don't need. Plus, some sounds can actually help you in-game.
SoundStrategist
Honestly, the best way is to tweak your overall system settings. Lowering in-game music and using headphones can really help focus on important sounds like footsteps and gunfire, without completely killing the vibe with total silence.
