Honestly, just use Steam's in-game overlay to show FPS. It's easier and works in all games. Shift+Tab to access it, then settings > In-Game and check the 'In-game FPS counter'. Boom, done.

Just type 'cl_showfps 1' in the console. Bam! FPS on your screen.
