I've always used 'net_graph 1'. Gives you FPS plus other useful info like ping. More detailed than just FPS if you're into that.

cl_showfps 1 - That's all you gotta type in the console. No fuss.

Super easy! Just open the console by pressing the tilde key (~), then type 'cl_showfps 1' and hit enter. Boom, FPS display is on your screen! If you wanna hide it again, just do 'cl_showfps 0'. Make sure your console is enabled in the game settings first though.

Honestly, just use Steam's in-game overlay for FPS. It's easier and you don't have to mess with console commands. Shift+Tab to open the overlay, then Settings > In-Game and check the 'In-game FPS counter'.
