You can get Gengar without trading by using a Linking Cord, a special item in Pokemon Violet. You find Linking Cords littered throughout the vast open world, specifically in Tera Raid Battles reward. Once you've nabbed yourself a Linking Cord, simply use it on your Haunter, and voila, it'll evolve into the spookily awesome Gengar! No need to bother your friends for a trade.
