How to Rename Traded Pokemon in Violet

Unfortunately, you can't rename Pokémon that you've received through trades in Pokémon Violet. This has been a long-standing rule in Pokémon games to respect the original trainer's choice of name. However, if the Pokémon hasn't been named and simply has its species name, you might get a chance to give it a nickname by visiting the Name Rater, who now hangs out in any Pokémon Center. If it's already got a custom name though, you're out of luck.

Actually had a funny experience where I tried to rename a traded Pokémon in Violet, thinking there might be a loophole this time. Spoiler: there wasn't. Stuck with a Pikachu named 'SparkyBoi87' now. It's grown on me, though!

You're stuck with it, pal. Traded Pokémon keep their names as a sign of respect to the original trainer. No renames allowed, which honestly adds a bit of character to your team.
