Honestly, walking is overrated. Why walk when you can ride a legendary Pokémon around? Much faster and cooler.

Just tilt the left stick slightly for walking. If you slam it all the way, you'll break into a run, and trust me, sometimes you don't wanna scare off those rare Pokémon.
