Are abilities on cards considered instants in MTG?
SnorkellingClock路7 months agoNope, abilities on cards aren't automatically considered instants in Magic The Gathering. Abilities come in various forms and follow their own rules. Instant speed refers to when you can play an ability, not the ability itself! Some abilities can be activated at instant speed, meaning you can use them on your opponent's turn or in response to other actions, but it's not the same as being an instant card.

Short answer: no. Abilities and instants are different things. Some abilities work like instants (activated abilities you can use anytime you could cast an instant), but they're not classified as 'instant' cards.
Not all abilities are instants, but hey, some can be used during your opponent's turn, which feels pretty instant-y to me!
