Are decks checked for fakes at MTG tournaments?

Yep, at higher-level tournaments, deck checks are a real thing. Judges or officials may randomly select decks to scan for counterfeit cards to ensure fair play. It's not only about the authenticity but also about the condition of the cards - they want to make sure no card stands out because of wear or markings that could give away its identity during a game. So, if you're hitting up a big tournament, make sure your deck is legit!

For sure, they check decks at big tournaments. But at your local game shop's Friday Night Magic? Not so much. It's more about the honor system there. Still, don't be that person with a deck full of phonies. Bad karma, mate.

Honestly, most of the time, nobody's going to whip out a magnifying glass at your casual tourney. High-stakes games? Yeah, expect checks. But your weekly casual play? As long as your cards look and feel real, you're good.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
