I've played a ton and never had issues with kills not counting. It's all about landing those shots and making sure you're the one dealing the final blow. The game does the rest!
Actually, they work just fine. Remember, Apex is a team game, so if you down someone and your teammate finishes them off, they get the kill credit. Could be where the confusion is coming from.
Totally disagree with the bug thing. Kills count. Maybe aim better?
