Can a spell counter itself in MTG?
Nope, a spell cannot counter itself in MTG. When you play a spell, it's already on the stack by the time you'd have the opportunity to counter it. So, unless you have a specific card or combo that somehow allows you to copy a spell and then counter that copy (which is a whole different discussion), a single spell can't just counter itself out of the blue.

Absolutely not. Think of it this way: once a spell is cast, it's like it's already out the door. You can't un-ring that bell by the spell itself. It's all about timing and the stack, and a spell is already committed to its fate once you've cast it.
Short answer: No. Long answer: Still no, but in more words.
