In Slime Rancher, ash troughs don't really 'empty' like other containers do. They just need to be refilled with incinerated food or resources to keep those cute Fire Slimes happy!
An ash trough doesn't run out on its own, but you'll need to add more burnt food to keep the flames alive.
Ash troughs in my experience have never emptied, but if you're out of ash, your Fire Slimes be grumpy!
