Totally! While the 'converted mana cost' (CMC) of a card is set based on the card's mana cost, certain spells and abilities can change how much mana you actually pay to cast a spell. However, these don't alter the card's original CMC. Think of it like a discount at a store; the price tag doesn't change, but you pay less. So, in terms of what's printed on the card, no, CMC doesn't change, but certain game situations can definitely make you pay more or less!

Not really, CMC is CMC. It's like asking if the number of pages in a book can change depending on how fast you read. The number's the number, simple as that.

As someone who's played MTG for years, I've seen lots of confusion about this. The CMC printed on the card is like its ID; it doesn't change. But abilities like 'affinity for artifacts' can reduce how much you pay. It's a cool part of the strategy but doesn't actually change the card's CMC.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
