Nope, your furry friend is immortal! While Dogmeat can take a beating, he won't ever die. He just takes a knee until you either heal him with a stimpack or enough time passes. Keep those mutts safe, though; nobody likes to see their doggo hurt!

Actually, in the grand scheme of things, Dogmeat being immortal is kinda unrealistic. Takes away the challenge, don't you think?

While Dogmeat can't die, he does need your care. It鈥檚 kind of a neat mechanic that forces players to pay attention to their companions, even though they can't die. It adds to the immersion, knowing you gotta look out for your buddies, be they human, robot, or canine.

Lucky for you and your canine companion in the Commonwealth, Dogmeat (and other companion dogs) can't die in Fallout 4. They can get injured in battle and will whimper pitifully on the ground, triggering every dog lover's heartbreak alarm, but give them a little time or a stimpack, and they'll be up and wagging in no time. So, no permanent death for Dogmeat or any other dog you might recruit.
