Yeah, they totally can! GTA 5 uses Rockstar's own Social Club to connect players, which means it doesn't matter if you bought the game on Steam or Epic Games Store. Just make sure you're logged into your Social Club account in-game, and you'll be able to team up or face-off against your friends no matter where they bought their copy.

Short answer: Yes. Steam and Epic Games players can play GTA 5 together without any problems.

I play GTA 5 with my buddies all the time; half of us have it on Steam and the other half on Epic Games. Never had an issue. Just log into that Social Club and you're good to go!
