They can't. Gem trees are picky and only grow underground on stone blocks. The surface isn't their thing.

Nope, gem trees in Terraria need to plant their roots underground. They won't grow on the surface as they require a stone block to sprout from. So, if you're planning a gem forest up top, you might need to rethink that strategy.

Tried it myself, gem trees definitely need to be underground. They won鈥檛 grow on the surface, tried using stone blocks up top and everything. No dice.

If you're a Terraria player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

That includes gift cards from all of your favorite gaming platforms, like PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam and more... which you can win and use to get anything you want essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
