Honestly, Dogmeat dying would make Fallout 4 way too real. Thankfully, Bethesda spared us that heartbreak. He just chills until you heal him or he recovers over time. Whew!
No worries! Your dog in Fallout 4, Dogmeat, is immortal. Even in Survival Mode, he won't die. He can get injured and will limp for a bit, but give him some time, and he'll be right as rain, ready to adventure alongside you again.
