Just tried it with my buddy鈥攕creenshotted a normal DM and no alert was sent. Disappearing ones, though? Yep, your cover gets blown.
You're safe with regular DMs, but Instagram will rat you out if you screenshot a disappearing message.
Don't worry, regular DMs are screenshot-friendly without notifications. Just don't do it with vanish-mode stuff!
