Sure, you can invite another player to your Orbiter. Just go to your Navigation console, click on their name in your friends list, and select 'Invite to Orbiter.'

Nope, players can't freely walk into each other's ships. Only invited friends can visit Orbiters, and only if you're in the same mission or session.
