First-hand here: as a PS4 owner, I can confirm you'll need PlayStation Now or some remasters for older games. Physical discs from previous generations won't work.
Nope, you can't just pop in any PlayStation game disc and expect it to work on a PS4. Some classics can be streamed via PlayStation Now, though.
