From my experience, my 'fat' PS3 runs PS2 games perfectly, but my friend's slim version? Not so much. Stick to the 'fat' model for PS2 discs.

No, most PS3 models can't play PS2 discs. You need to get a compatible early model for that.

Only the early PS3 models can play PS2 discs. Sony removed the backward compatibility in later versions to cut costs.
