Short answer: No. PS4's too advanced for PS3 to handle cross-play.

Nope, PS3 and PS4 don’t have cross-play capabilities. You'll need both players on the same console generation.

I tried this with friends but sadly, PS3 and PS4 can't connect for multiplayer. Gotta upgrade to PS4!
