From my experience, I've tried using a wireless Xbox 360 controller with a USB cable, and it only charges the battery. It doesn't work for gameplay.

Nope! You can't just plug in a wireless Xbox 360 controller and expect it to work like a wired one. You'll need a separate wired controller for that.
