No way to switch mayors. The game's design locks the role to the first player. On the plus side, it gives you a good reason to call dibs on being the first player if you're about to start a new game with friends or family!
Nope, you can't change the mayor in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The player who first creates the island is the default 'Resident Representative'. This title sticks with them, meaning the island's first player is always in charge of island decisions and can't pass the torch. Gotta start a new island if you want to switch that up!
