You technically can, but it's a bit of a workaround. You need a PC to bridge the connection using Remote Play. Plug your PS5 controller into the PC and use Remote Play to connect to your PS4. It's a bit like plugging a lamp into an extension cord, then plugging that into another extension cord. Not ideal but it works!

You can use the PS5 controller on a PS4, but it requires a PC and Remote Play. I did this and found it a bit clunky but usable. It’s not straightforward, but if you’re desperate, it’s an option.
