Nope, you can't counter a cast trigger itself because it's not a spell. Cast triggers happen as soon as you cast the spell, and they're independent of the spell actually resolving. However, you can counter the spell that caused the trigger with a counterspell, but the trigger will still happen. So, if your opponent is casting something spicy that has a nasty trigger, your best bet is to counter the spell and deal with the trigger effect separately.

Short answer: No. Long story: You can't counter the trigger but you can counter the spell causing it. Also, there are some cards that can counter abilities, which is kinda like countering the trigger, but not really the same thing.

Actually, you can sort of counter a cast trigger if you think about it. Use cards that counter triggered abilities. It's not countering the trigger in the traditional sense, but it's the closest thing you'll get. So, while you technically can't counter a cast trigger directly, you've got options to deal with it indirectly.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
