I've tried it myself. You have to demolish the Grander Hall first before you can delete the Grand Hall. It's a pain but that's how it works.

You actually can't delete the Grand Hall if you've already built the Grander Hall because the Grander Hall depends on the Grand Hall as a prerequisite.
