Hot take but, just start fresh. New character, new adventures. It's more fun than trying to resurrect an old one, especially with all the updates and new stuff they've added since you probably last played.

Yes, you can retrieve your old GTA 5 character, but it depends on a few things. If you originally played on console and linked your account to Rockstar's Social Club, then you're in luck! Just make sure you use the same Social Club login when you're setting up GTA 5 on your new platform, and your character should be there waiting for you. Keep in mind, though, character transfers from older consoles (like PS3 or Xbox 360) to the newer ones or PC had a cut-off date back in 2017, so hopefully, your transfer happened before then!
I got mine back! Just had to make sure my Social Club account was linked and it was pretty straightforward from there. Didn't lose any progress and it was like I never left. Definitely check out Rockstar's support page if you're having trouble, they lay it all out there.
