You can, but why would you want to? Killing Virgil immediately means you miss out on a pretty cool quest line and some nifty rewards. Plus, it's always nice to have one more scientist in the wasteland, even if he's a bit... different.
Absolutely, but it's a waste of potential. Virgil's story adds some depth to the game. Plus, where else are you gonna get that serum?
