Nope, can't play as a zombie. The whole point is to STOP the zombies using your garden arsenal. It's plants all the way.

Actually, kinda. There's a mini-game called 'I, Zombie' where you strategically place zombies to eat the brains. Not the same as the main game, but hey, it's something!
