Nope, Terraria didn't beat Minecraft to the punch. Minecraft first started its blocky adventure in 2009, while Terraria dug into the scene in 2011. So, Minecraft gets the senior badge here.

Actually, Minecraft laid down the first block. It officially released in November 2011, but the first public version was out in 2009. Terraria came out in May 2011, making it the younger sibling in the sandbox game family.

Terraria and Minecraft are often compared, but Terraria is NOT the OG. Minecraft started shaping worlds in 2009, and Terraria started its journey in 2011. Both awesome, but Minecraft was first!
