Yes, they removed many of the standalone loot puzzles, but you can still find some integrated into the campaign levels.
They still exist, but they're not as big a focus as the rest of the game content anymore.
The puzzles are still in the game, but they're not as frequent. Keep playing through the campaign and you'll find them.
