Do +1/+1 Counters Remove -1/-1 Counters in MTG?

In Magic The Gathering, +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters effectively cancel each other out. So, if you have a creature with +1/+1 counters on it and it gets -1/-1 counters (maybe from an opponent's spell or ability), for each pair of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters, they're removed from the creature. This can be a handy trick to remember during gameplay!

Actually, +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters do remove each other, but don't forget that this can sometimes mess with your strategy. If you're buffing up your creatures expecting those +1/+1s to stick around, a well-placed -1/-1 can clear them away quicker than you can say 'counter war'.

IDK why people complicate this. +1s and -1s simply don't mix. They cancel out and poof! Gone. Keep it simple, folks.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
