Yeah, just check the model number! CECHCxx and CECHExx series play PS2 games. Others? Not so much.

Nope, not all fat PS3s play PS2 games. Only the original 20GB and 60GB models had full hardware backward compatibility. Later 'fat' models dropped that feature.
