Do counters cancel +1/+1 counters in MTG?
MisleadingBride路7 months agoNope, counters don't cancel each other out directly. In Magic The Gathering, +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters do interact, though. If a creature has both types of counters on it, you remove them in pairs. So, if your creature has 3 +1/+1 counters and 2 -1/-1 counters, you'd remove 2 of each, leaving it with just 1 +1/+1 counter in the end. It's like they neutralize each other, but only if both are present on the same creature.

Actually, +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters do sort of cancel each other, but only when they're on the same creature. They get removed together. So, if your creature's beefed up with +1/+1s and then gets hit with -1/-1s, you do a little math, subtract, and adjust the counters accordingly!
Lol no, what you see is what you get. Counters don't do any cancelling on their own. You gotta remove them manually if you've got both + and - counters on the same creature. Magic isn't a self-cleaning oven.
I've been playing MTG for years, and I've seen this come up a lot. The answer is yes and no. While +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters do effectively cancel each other out, they don't just disappear into thin air. You have to physically remove them from the creature as per the rules. I've had many games where this little rule made a huge difference!
