Yup, dads can explore too. Anyone can explore, really. Just give them a weapon and some gear; they'll bring back all sorts of goodies.
Send dads away? More like send anyone! But yeah, watch out, it's risky business. Load 'em up good or they might not come back.
Not a fan. Sending dwellers out feels like a gamble. Sometimes they bring back cool stuff, other times, they barely make it alive. I just focus on my vault.
