Do Hot Wheels lose value out of the package?

Absolutely, keeping them in the package is like having a mint-condition comic book—it's all about the pristine condition. Once you rip that package open, it's like saying goodbye to a chunk of its potential collector value. It's not just about the car, but the package it comes in matters too. Mint on card? Mint in box? That's the lingo you'll hear in the collector's world. So, if you're looking to keep or increase its value, better to leave it sealed.

It's all about rarity and demand. Even out of the package, a rare model can hold or even increase in value over time. It's not just a simple open-or-not equation.

I beg to differ, it really depends on what you value more: the joy of collecting or the joy of playing? I've opened plenty and never looked back. Sure, some rare ones definitely lose monetary value, but the value of joy? Priceless.
