Do I have to pay CMC for Jumpstart cards in MTG?
ResolvingGame路7 months agoNope, you don't have to pay the converted mana cost (CMC) for Jumpstart cards in the traditional sense. Jumpstart is a mechanic that lets you pay an alternative cost, usually discarding a card and paying some mana, to cast the spell from your graveyard. So, you're not paying the CMC listed at the top right of the card, but rather, you're paying whatever the Jumpstart cost is!

My two cents: Jumpstart lets you cheat the usual CMC in a cool way. Played right, it can be a game-changer.
Actually, you sort of do but in a roundabout way. With Jumpstart, the mana you pay is part of the alternative cost to casting it from the graveyard. So, while it's not the CMC upfront, you're still managing resources and costs.
Short answer: No. Long answer: You'll be paying the Jumpstart cost instead, which could include discarding a card along with whatever mana cost is required. It's different from the card's original CMC.
