For those added non-Steam games, expect Steam to give you the cold shoulder on tracking time. It only keeps tabs on its own.

Actually, if you're clever, you can use third-party apps to track playtime for non-Steam games. But, straight out of the box? Steam's not going to help you with that.

Nope, Steam only tracks the playtime of games that you've added and launched through its platform. Non-Steam games you add as shortcuts won't have their playtime recorded by Steam. It's like Steam saying, "If I didn't sell it to you, I'm not watching it for you."

If you're a Steam player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is the official Steam gift card, which you can win and use to get anything you want essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
