Actually, downloads stop in sleep mode. The PC cuts off most activities to save power, and that includes downloading on Steam.

I wish, but nope. Tried it. My PC slept, and so did my downloads. Had to leave my PC on all night for a game update.

Nah, when your PC goes to sleep mode, Steam downloads pause. It's like everything takes a nap, including your downloads. You gotta keep your PC awake if you want to keep those game downloads going.
