Do token copies of legendaries kill the original card in MTG?
CatalogingDisk·7 months agoYep, they sure do! In Magic The Gathering, the 'legend rule' applies here. If you have a legendary card on the field and then create a token that's a copy of that legendary card, say goodbye to both the original and the token. The rule states that if two or more legendary permanents with the same name are on the battlefield, they're sent to the graveyard. So, whether it’s a token or a card, if they're legendary and share a name, they can't coexist.

Hot take: I think the legend rule is what keeps MTG interesting. It forces players to think twice before cloning their best legends. Adds a layer of strategy!
Actually, it's not that bad. Only one gets to stay, and you pick which one! When you make a token copy of a legendary creature, you do trigger the legend rule, but that just means you have to choose one to keep on the battlefield. The other one (your choice) goes to the graveyard. It's like a legendary showdown where only one gets to stick around.
