GTA Online is standalone on PS5, and PS4 too. You don't need the GTA 5 game to play it. But, buying GTA Online separately is the deal now.
Nope, you don't need to buy GTA 5 to dive into GTA Online on your PS5. Rockstar made GTA Online a standalone title on next-gen consoles, so you can jump straight into the chaos without the base game. But, keep in mind, GTA Online is a paid title on its own for next-gen, so you'll still need to grab it from the PlayStation Store.
You absolutely do not need GTA 5 to get into GTA Online on PS5. Rockstar's got you covered with a separate purchase option. But hey, having the full GTA 5 experience is something else. Just saying.
